  • Wrongfully Imprisoned

    CD

Calvin Duncan spoke to us last year right at the beginning of the Nola to Angola ride in New Orleans, he was wrongfully incarcerated at Angola for 28 years and is now trying to raise money to repair a house that was given to him. He’s amazing and the place is going to be so great once it’s fixed. Please consider donating and definitely spread this around.

  • NOLA To Angola 2013 Update and Benefit Show!

The 2013 NOLA To Angola bike ride will be taking place over the third weekend in October.  That’s October 18th-20th.

How can you help us prepare for that while having one hell of a good time you ask?  I’m so glad you asked that question, because we are having a benefit show (tentatively) on the 21st of April.  The funds raised from this show will help to offset overhead costs for the ride (food, fuel, equipment) and help us keep rider registration low so that all money raised by the riders goes to the bus project.

    More show details forthcoming.

  • Spring Cleaning? I Know Where You Can Send Those CDs!

Spring Cleaning? I Know Where You Can Send Those CDs!

This is not bus related, but no less important. If you have CDs you are planning on getting rid of, please consider donating them to WWOZ this week. They’ll get them to the Louisiana State Prison radio station AKA “Angola” where they will be played by the inmate DJs over the airwaves. Help give them a chance where their biggest concern is coming up with a playlist for the prison.

If you don’t have any CDs, please share this so it gets around before Friday.

  • Nearly $14,000!

The 2012 NOLA To Angola ride raised just under $14,000 for the Cornerstone Bus Project!  (http://www.ccano.org/programs/social-justice/)This was thanks to the hard work of every rider to get pledges early, follow up with their friends and family, and the generosity of those who gave their time, money, energy, support, and love to people they don’t even know.

Thanks to this year’s riders, there will be even more buses helping to keep families in touch with one another.  They will help to sponsor additional buses so people no longer need to wait until the next time a bus is going to visit the prison in which a loved one is incarcerated.  They help to make certain that there will be a bus every month without worry for those who organize the ride so they can concentrate on things other than getting the money together.

We can’t thank any of you enough.  Even those who thought they simply linked this blog on their own blog.  YOU inspired followers of your blog to donate to this wonderful cause.

We have wrapped up that ride, and are now meeting to plan for the 2013 ride.  If you want to play a part in it, get in touch with us.  As a rider, organizer, planner, or a regular link demon.  We appreciate every form of aid.

  • 2 more info Sessions! September 27, 2012

We are still looking for riders!

We’ve scheduled 2 new info sessions for September 27.  They will be held:

    • 6 p.m. at Monroe Library, Seminar Room 4 at Loyola University
    • 7:30 p.m. at Flora Gallery and Coffee Shop 2600 Royal Street (corner of Royal and Franklin).

Nola to Angola is a little short on riders for this year’s ride thus far.  We’re looking to make up the difference at these two info sessions.  If you are at all interested, please drop in to one of these!

  • info session September 19

We’ve scheduled another info session for September 19 at Hey! Cafe.  4332 Magazine (near Napoleon).

Please come to this info session to find out more about ride logistics, meet some of the organizers and other potential riders, and ask questions.

There is a possibility that we may schedule additional info sessions, but for the time being, this is our last one.
